For the kids…

In line for some snacksVolunteering in Grenada…THE MOUNT AIRY YOUNG READERS PROGRAM

Background

The program is run by a Mount Airy resident, Mrs Jeanne Pascal, who 6 years ago began giving extra reading tuition to a couple of interested pre-teen neighbors. The children began to bring their friends along each week and when numbers outgrew Jeanne’s porch, she approached the community hall committee and got permission to use the hall on Saturdays. Jeanne now has approximately 60 children registered for the program and between 30 and 45 turn up each week. Every Saturday cruisers volunteer their time, and the kids are such a pleasure to work with!

Aside from reading, we practice math and sing songs. We also and get some time to play some games with the little guys. The best part is they are more than wiling to learn and have a drive in them that is really nice to see. They love to learn! And were happy to help!
